English police arrested a teen who allegedly punched an 87-year-old woman.

The elderly woman was assault by two teenage girls on Oct. 16 while riding the bus, Metropolitan Police reports.

“On Friday, 16 October at about [3:20 p.m.], the victim was traveling on a Route 166 bus on Brighton Road, Coulsdon when the two female suspects boarded the bus without paying," according to a statement by the Metropolitan Police.

Most of the passengers had gotten off the bus following a verbal exchange between the driver and suspects.

The suspects struck the 87-year-old in the face before they fled. Another passenger helped the victim, and the driver contacted authorities.

She was transported to St. Helier Hospital for having suffered a black eye, and she was discharged later that day.

Authorities released a description of the suspects “as black girls, aged between 14 and 18 years old.” They claimed one of the suspects wore a black headband.

Police arrested a suspect matching the description on Nov. 9 in suspicion of assault causing actual-bodily-harm. The girl was 14 years old, and she was taken to a police station in south London where she remains in custody.

“Officers have also identified the second female involved in the incident - she has not been arrested at this time,” Met Police said in a statement.

A report by the Bureau of Justice Statistics in 2013 found more members of the elderly community were victims of violent crime than people between the ages of 12 and 34.
