An 8-year-old boy was allegedly doused with pepper spray, forced to eat his own vomit and locked in a cabinet with a sock stuffed in his mouth before being beaten to death by his mother and her boyfriend, according to new court documents.
Pearl Fernandez, 30, and Isauro Aguirre, 34, abused “every inch” of their 8-year-old son, Gabriel Fernandez, before his gruesome murder in May of last year, the Los Angeles court was told by prosecutors.
Prosecutors said that “for eight straight months, Gabriel was abused, beaten, and tortured more severely than many prisoners of war.” He even wrote his own suicide note because he couldn’t take the beatings anymore.

Two Los Angeles social workers and two supervisors have been fired in the aftermath of Gabriel’s death after failing to respond to repeated warning signs, the Los Angeles Times reports.
On May 22, 2013, Fernandez called 911 because her son had stopped breathing. She told Los Angeles County deputies that her son had fallen and hit his head on a dresser.
But Gabriel was found in a bedroom, not breathing and suffering from a cracked skull and three broken ribs. X-rays showed BB pellets in his lungs and groin.
According to statements given by Gabriel’s two siblings, who are both minors, the boy was forced to eat cat feces and rotten spinach and was never allowed to go to the bathroom. He was called gay and beaten when he played with dolls and made to wear girls’ clothes to school. He was beaten with a metal hanger, a wooden club and belt buckle and at one point Fernandez knocked out multiple teeth with a bat.

Despite several reports to social workers by concerned teachers, the boy was never removed from the home.
Every incident report concluded that there was no abuse and no one ever wrote up a detailed report.
Gabriel’s siblings told the jury the final beating came on May 22 when Fernandez got angry because he wouldn’t clean up his toys.
She and Aguirre reportedly took him to a bedroom and beat him until he was dead.
According to the Times, James Kemp Ribe of the LA County coroner’s office told the grand jury that he had “never seen this many skin injuries on a child.”
