6-Year-Old Girl, Father Maced in New York; Suspect Turns Himself In (Video)

The New York City man who allegedly maced a father and 6-year-old girl in a laundromat over the weekend has surrendered himself to the police, according to official reports.

According to the New York Daily News, police say a man named Fernando Gonzalez went on a rampage Saturday night, first assaulting a 47-year-old Derrick Dunn in a Bronx laundromat before eventually macing his 6-year-old daughter.

Police say that Dunn's and Gonzalez's girlfriends had allegedly argued earlier inside the laundromat. They believe the argument between the two women was a catalyst to the dustup that may have prompted Gonzalez's violent actions. However, there are conflicting reports as to what the quarrel had actually been about. Speculation is that the fight was over the use of a laundry card, according to the New York Post. It is alleged that Gonzalez had come back to take revenge for his girlfriend against Dunn.

Gonzalez is reported to have burst into the laundry mat on White Plains Rd. near Robertson Street at about 6:10 p.m. Saturday evening. Once inside, he immediately walked forward and began attacking the man, identified as Derrick Dunn, according to authorities.

The NYPD released surveillance footage of the attack on Monday, and Gonzalez is said to have surrendered a few hours later. He has been charged with assault.

This is not the first time in recent years that a child has been a victim of mace or pepper-spray.

In 2010, an Ohio father was accused of macing his 2-month-old daughter. According to Fox 19 News, Gregory Tate sprayed the mace in the same area as his child while having an argument with the infant's mother.

In 2011, ABC reported that an 8-year-old Colorado boy had been pepper-sprayed by police officers in his school.
