A 40-year-old man who raped and impregnated a 10-year-old girl was sentenced to decades in prison on Nov. 24.
Darrick Guider pleaded guilty on Sept. 29 to a felony charge of first-degree child sex assault involving intercourse with a person under the age of 12, reported Fox 6 News.
According to criminal complaints, the girl who was 10 years old at the time moved into a family member’s home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in which Guider lived. The girl told police Guider assaulted her shortly after moving into the residence in June 2014, and that he told her “this is how [you] make money.” The Guider allegedly put his hand over her mouth when she was trying to scream, reports Fox 6 News.
The victim claimed Guider tried to have sex with her on various occasions, and that the relative with whom she lived did not believe the child when she said Guider had been “messing with her.”

In January 2015, the family member took the child to a pediatrician. The doctor told the relative to take the girl to Children’s Hospital, which was not done. In March, another family member noticed the child’s swelled abdomen, and a visit to Mt. Sinai Hospital confirmed the girl’s pregnancy. Ultimately, she gave birth to a girl in June 2015.
While in jail awaiting his trial, Guider called his girlfriend from the Milwaukee County Jail in an attempt to convince her to lie to the district attorney about the incident.
"Just tell them she had a little boyfriend or something," Guider reportedly said to his girlfriend on the phone. "That he, they, she already talked to this parent, they going through that so they can drop the (expletive) against me — and we, this (expletive) is crazy, I can't do this kind of time."
The defendant had been facing additional charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and intimidating a witness. As a result of his guilty plea, those charges were dropped.
