A brave 4-year-old boy is safe after he jumped out of a car during an apparent carjacking.
The incident occurred in the Park District of Stockton, California on May 11, CBS Sacramento reported (video below).
Hahn Tran had left her Honda Civic running while she went to say goodbye to her relatives. Her children were playing near the car when 4-year-old Peyton climbed into the vehicle.
Suddenly, a man jumped into the car and sped off.

"I load up my car, I turn around, try to say goodbye to my mother-in-law and tell all the other kids to get into the car to leave to go home — and out of nowhere, that guy just took off in the car," Tran told KCRA. "And my sister-in-law was like, 'The car. The car.'
"And I was like, 'Oh my God, the baby is in the car. The baby is in the car.'"

Family members chased after the vehicle.
“I’d seen a car come flying real fast, and another truck chasing him,” neighbor Lawrence Collins told CBS Sacramento. “He was going like 60, 70 miles per hour.”
The 4-year-old boy was in the backseat unbuckled and jumped out of the car.
“He turned the corner so fast I thought the kid just fell out,” Collins explained.
Peyton rolled onto the sidewalk and family members quickly attended to him.
“The little boy did get injured,” Stockton Police spokesman Joe Silva told CBS Sacramento. “He jumped out of a moving vehicle, because he didn’t know who the man was and fearing for his safety, he did what he thought was right and he did the right thing.”
The suspect, who is still on the loose, was described as a Hispanic man around 40 years old and 5 feet 5 inches, with short hair.
The stolen vehicle has yet to be found. It’s a four-door 2001 Honda Civic with the license plate number 7EDX752.
Tran is just glad that her son is safe and says he only suffered minor injuries.
“I am so very proud of him and we are so blessed of how smart he is,” Tran told KCRA. “You've got to be really proud of him ... I mean, even as (an) adult, that’s probably not a reaction we would have in that kind of moment."
Tran told CBS Sacramento that when she asked Peyton why he jumped out of the car, the boy responded, “Because he wasn’t you, Mommy.”
