A 3-year-old from Memphis, Tennessee, is in critical condition after his mother’s boyfriend reportedly beat him for eating the last slice of cheesecake.
Anthony Gulledge, 30, was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse, domestic assault and neglect for the incident on Jan. 10.
According to Gulledge’s girlfriend, the man came home late on Saturday night and opened his refrigerator, looking to eat of slice of cheesecake. When he discovered the toddler had eaten the last slice, he reportedly proceeded to drag the boy out of his bedroom by the ankles and beat him with a whip. The boy was in critical condition and had a dislocated vertebrae and a broken leg, according to his mother.
Daily Mail reported the toddler was covered in bruises when he was admitted to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. His mother said her boyfriend beat the child twice that night, and she called the police the following morning to report his actions.

Gulledge, who denied beating the child, is being held in Shelby County Jail on $210,000 bond.
