STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – A 3-year-old boy died in March after his mother left him alone in a cabin with neither food nor water.

Investigators say that Austin Davis spent more than 90 hours by himself. His mother, Megan McKeon, had allegedly left him there with nothing more than a movie playing.

When McKeon returned to the cabin, she allegedly found that he was unresponsive. Davis died shortly thereafter in a hospital.

The March 27 incident was not the first time the young boy had been left alone for an extended period of time. In fact, according to a Routt County Coroner’s Office report, McKeon had a history of leaving him alone in the cabin without appropriate food, water or heat.

The coroner’s report stated that Davis died of complication due to dehydration and determined that his death was a homicide.

He had no visible external injuries.

As described in the coroner’s report, McKeon, 24, admitted to leaving Davis alone overnight in the cabin.

She has been charged with two counts of felony child abuse resulting in death. If convicted, she could be sentenced to eight to 24 years in prison for each count.

Her bond has been set at $250,000.
