Police in Cobb County, Georgia, are investigating after a 17-year-old girl was stabbed to death by her step-cousin.
According to WSBTV, officers were called to an Acworth city home at 8:49 a.m. on Nov. 14 to find 17-year-old Abbey Hebert stabbed to death in the yard. Authorities then found 18-year-old Olivia Smith near the body and arrested her.
Smith, Abbey’s step-cousin, reportedly had an argument with her that turned physical, when she grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the girl, reported WSBTV. She chased the teen outside the home, where witnesses said they saw her stab Abbey multiple times.
Abbey’s father, Steve Hebert, said he doesn’t understand what caused Smith to become so angry that she stabbed his daughter. Just two days prior, Smith — who had been friends with Abbey for many years before her uncle married the teen’s mother — tweeted that she loved her, reported 11 Alive. Steve said he believes the love might have become an obsession.

“If you look at her Facebook page, to me, she was obsessed with my child,” he said, according to 11 Alive. “Everything was about Abbey that she had in her Facebook.”
Smith is being held without bond and charged with felony murder in the brutal stabbing, reported WSBTV.
“I only had one child and that was Abbey and I don't know where to go from here,” Abbey’s father said, according to WSBTV. “I don't know what to say."
