A 12-year-old Michigan boy allegedly fatally stabbed a 9-year-old boy at a Kentwood playground on Monday because nobody loved him.
The 9-year-old victim was stabbed at least once in the back at a playground near Pinebrook Village Mobile Home Park, police said.
Neighbor’s claimed they heard yelling from the playground and saw one boy holding his back, WOOD-TV reported.
A witness says the 12-year-old approached him and asked to use his phone because he had stabbed someone.
“A young man approached my house, wanted to borrow my phone. I assumed he was calling his mother,” Glen Stacy told WXMI-TV. “Lo and behold he was calling 9-1-1 to say ‘I stabbed someone, please pick me up, I want to end my life.'”
“He didn’t deserve this,” said 11-year-old Tayah Fritch, who is friends with the 9-year-old victim.
The motive behind the stabbing is unclear. The 12-year-old did not have a juvenile arrest record.
Stacy claims the boy told him he was upset because nobody loves him and had taken "a lot of pills" earlier in the day. He said the boy calmly cooperated with investigators who arrived on the scene.
The suspect was evaluated at an area hospital and then taken to Kent County Juvenile Detention Center pending formal charges.
