Tristen Kurilla, 10, was charged on Monday for allegedly killing Helen Novak, 90, last Saturday.
According to police, Kurilla was visiting his grandfather Anthony Virbitsky, who took care of Novak, in Tyler Hill, Pa. (video below).
Kurilla walked into Novak's room at around 10 a.m. to ask her a question, but she told him to get out. Kurilla allegedly left the room, got a cane, returned to Novak's room, hooked her neck from behind with the cane, pulled her backwards and beat her in the throat and stomach, reports Mcall.com.
The boy reportedly told police, "I killed that lady," but added, "I was only trying to hurt her."
Kurilla informed Virbitsky that Novak was bleeding from her mouth. Virbitsky didn't see any blood, but told police that Novak was "breathing heavy and looked scared" so he called 911.
Kurilla was charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault, and is being held without bail at the Wayne County Correctional Facility.
WNEP reports that the Wayne County District Attorney’s officer has charged Kurilla as an adult.
Kurilla's mother told police that her son had "mental difficulties."
