Cop Acquitted in Kelly Thomas Beating Shamed in Neighborhood Denny's

Manuel Ramos, the Orange County cop who was found innocent in the killing of homeless man Kelly Thomas, was met by an angry mob at a neighborhood Denny’s.

Ramos and another Fullerton County police officer were found not guilty last month in the fatal beating of Kelly Thomas, a homeless man with mental health issues. The picture of the 37-year-old’s battered face and the recording of his last words, “Dad, they are killing me,” provoked shock and outrage during the widely publicized trial.

It looks like Ramos won’t get off easy in his post-verdict life. A Denny’s customer recognized Ramos in the restaurant a mile from the site of the Kelly beating and took a photo of him, posting it to her Facebook page. After switching her settings to private, the photo and caption got 1,000 shares in one day, the Orange County Weekly reported.

“So last night at Denny's we saw this "cop" (the one that killed Kelly Thomas) his ass SHOULD be in jail.. & thank fully the people next to him complained and he got up and left .. I hope it is like that the rest of your life going places, Kelly Thomas has no choice of doing anything he wants to do cause of you .. Enjoy your "freedom" #ripkellythomas,” Becky Nicole Wright wrote in her Facebook post.

Ramos has reportedly moved away from Fullerton, but still comes back to visit.

The OC Weekly staff weren’t going to let Ramos off the hook, either.

“Coker said Ramos ordered the ‘Rooty Tooty Fresh and Brute-y’; our music editor, Nate Jackson, corrected him, saying "I think you're thinking of IHOP. Or in Ramos' case, IKILL,’ writes OC Weekly’s Gustavo Arrellano. “And Gabriel San Román ended our inter-office chuckle-fest by noting, ‘He should be in the slammer, not ordering a grand slam.’”
