To the Tucson, Arizona community, convenience store owner Maen Mdanat is a real-life super hero.
“Convenience Store Man.”
Mdanat, reportedly a former special forces soldier, earned the title after surveillance footage from his shop was publicized showing him effectively removing a would-be robber from his store.
Mdanat says a man came into his store the other night and asked his cashier to hand over money. Mdanat came out of his office and escorted the man to the door. But before the suspect left, he landed a sucker punch on Mdanat. As this video clip shows, Mdanat was having none of it:
“He was comfortable walking in, showing his muscle, like ‘I can do whatever I want,’” Mdanat told local news station KVOA. “That’s basically the message he gave me when he walked in. But I changed his idea when he walked out.”
Mdanat is seen on the tail end of the video asking the suspect if he is alright. It was only the humane thing to do, he says.
"I made sure he's okay,” Mdanat said. “I asked him, you okay? I'm still human; I have kids and a wife."
