CNN’s Royal Contributor Victoria Arbiter celebrated Kate Middleton as a “brilliant” royal after Monday’s much-anticipated arrival of the royal baby, because she was able to deliver a boy on the first try.

Arbiter lived in the Kensington Palace for some time while her father was the Press Secretary for the Queen.

“There are women throughout British royal family history that have panicked over not being able to deliver a boy,” Arbiter said, “and here we are, Kate did it first time.”

Arbiter later took to Twitter to clarify her comments, after she received criticism for celebrating the baby’s gender and not simply its birth, noting that it was tongue in cheek based on the “shocking history”.

“We’re not sure if her praise is lost on us because the U.S. is not a constitutional monarchy, or because it’s 2013,” The Huffington Post wrote.

Jezebel quipped that Henry VIII and everyone else without an understanding of chromosomes congratulated the Duchess.

Arbiter also noted that a discussion of changing the laws of succession will be over for another generation, referencing a proposal that would allow a child to ascend the throne regardless of gender.

The prince, who is now third in line to the throne, was born at 4:24p.m weighing 8 pounds, 6 ounces.
