A Cincinnati-area mother found her son’s ice cream sandwich left sitting outside in 80-degree weather for 12 hours and was shocked that it barely melted at all.
“I noticed that my son had left his ice cream sandwich outside, and I was wondering ‘why is there still ice cream in there?’” Christie Watson told WCPO-TV.
She thought it was “quite weird,” but she looked at the box which said that it contained ice cream, not artificial ice cream.
The mother of two decided to leave another Walmart Great Value ice cream sandwich outside over night, and that one didn’t melt either.

"I thought to myself: What am I feeding to my children?" Watson said.
WCPO did a similar experiment using different forms of ice cream and placed a Walmart ice cream sandwich, a cup of Haagen-Dazs, and a Klondike bar outside for half an hour.
They discovered that the Haagen-Dazs quickly melted, the Klondike bar melted a fair amount, and the Walmart sandwich remained the most solid.
TheBlaze notes that the Klondike bar is not a sandwich, but is encased in a chocolate shell, and the Haagen-Dazs was a pint of ice cream in a container. These factors — structure, amount and ingredients — all affect melting rate.

According to the news station, Walmart’s sandwiches include corn syrup, guar gum, and cellulose gum, with Klondike bars containing the same ingredients. On the contrary, Haagen-Dazs, contains cream, milk, sugar, eggs and vanilla, but no corn syrup or gums.
In a statement, Walmart told WCPO that its ice cream “melts based on the ingredients including cream.”
“Ice cream with more cream [sic] will generally melt at a slower rate, which is the case with our Great Value ice cream sandwiches,” the company continued, adding that the sandwiches meet FDA guidelines.
