On June 24, Christy Sheats reportedly stabbed and then shot her two daughters, Madison Sheats, 17, and Taylor Sheats, 22, killing them. She then allegedly attempted to murder her husband as well. Taylor would have been married on June 27.

Jason Sheats, Christy's husband and Madison and Taylor's father, is the only survivor of the shooting. According to the Daily Mail, a witness said Christy had stabbed the girls before shooting them. Jason reportedly only escaped because his wife was busy reloading her gun when he ran into a neighbor's house.

Taylor was due to wed her fiance, Juan Sebastian Lugo, who was also her college boyfriend of four years, on June 27. Taylor and Madison's murder came just days before her wedding day.

Christy allegedly had a history of mental illness, and she and Jason, 45, had recently gotten back together after a separation. The Sheriff's Office had reportedly responded to 14 calls to the Sheats' home in Katy, Texas, since 2012.

Caitilin Espinosa, a spokeswoman for the sheriff, said that officers had gone to the family's house because of "previous altercations" stemming from Christy's "mental crisis."

Madison and Taylor's bodies were found in the street after they'd allegedly run from their mother, who had started to fire shots in the house, Espinosa told People. When authorities arrived, Christy refused to put down her gun and was shot dead by an officer "before she was able to shoot [Madison] again," said Espinosa.

June 24, the day of the murders, was also reportedly Jason's birthday. He was taken to a hospital after the incident because of his emotional distress.

Christy, a frequent user on Facebook, had posted in recent months about her support for automatic firearms and her fear of gun control laws.

"It would be horribly tragic if my ability to protect myself or my family were to be taken away," she wrote in a post in March, "but that's exactly what Democrats are determined to do by banning semi-automatic handguns."

Maria Lugo, the sister of Taylor's grieving fiance, posted a tribute to Taylor on what should have been her wedding day, the Daily Mail reports.

"Yall were part of our family, and that will never change," wrote Maria. "The greatest in laws any one could ever have, and the sweetest, most wholesome and caring girls in my life.

"I look up to yall so much. Y'all were a light in the midst of this crazy world. We will love you two until the end of time."
