Officials are investigating a UFO sighting reported by residents on a rural village in northeast China.
Residents of villages in the Heilongjiang province reported that three UFOs fell out of the sky on Friday morning, according Chinese-language China News Service.
"Villagers heard...a huge piercing sound, and then some villagers saw a big fireball,” the news source reports.
The Huffington Post posted a video of the circular, metallic objects, which were spotted by people in two counties before eventually making landfall in a vegetable garden.
"I saw a huge ball of fire, I thought it was a meteorite," one villager described, according to Chinatopix.com. "I hid inside my house and waited until the object...landed."
The mysterious objects were described by news sources as metal spheres “about 2-and-a-half-feet wide and weighing nearly 90 pounds” and "surrounded by jagged edges and burn marks."
Officials are, of course, searching for a non-alien explanation. According to Ecns.cn, the official English-language website of China News Service, a Russian Proton-M rocket carrying a communications satellite burned up in the earth’s atmosphere Friday morning after its engine failed post-launch.
Chinese media has theorized that unburned pieces of the rocket may have landed on the ground in China.
