Chihuahua Injured After Being Drenched In Hot Sauce By Owner’s Boyfriend, Ephrian Myles

A three-month-old Chihuahua is recovering at a veterinary hospital after Sarasota, Fla., police say a man poured hot sauce all over the puppy, including into his eyes and throat.

The incident occurred Sunday morning in Sarasota when Ephrian Myles, 47, became angry at the dog for having a seizure. Myles began to argue with the dog’s owner, his girlfriend Kelly Ripley, when he grabbed the dog -- named Gizmo -- by the throat and poured hot sauce all over it.

Ripley took the dog to a nearby fire station for help.

“It couldn’t open its eyes,” Officer Jessica Sullivan told Fox Tampa. “One was completely swollen shut and the other was barely open.”

When questioned, Myles denied pouring hot sauce over the dog. Police arrested him and charged him with felony aggravated animal cruelty. He is currently held on $5,000 bond in the Sarasota County jail.

Sarasota Police spokeswoman Genevieve Judge said the incident was heartbreaking.

“You have a three pound dog that fits in the palm of your hand and just knowing that somebody is capable of doing that to a defenseless animal – it just breaks your heart,” Sarasota Police spokeswoman Genevieve Judge said, according to the New York Daily News.

Gizmo was taken to Animal Services and is expected to make a full recovery.

Ripley gave up ownership of the dog, telling police she doesn’t think she can take care of him.
