A Chicago man who co-authored a book on surviving the running of the bulls is recovering after being gored in Spain on Wednesday.

“Buffalo” Bill Hillmann, 32, published "Fiesta: How to Survive the Bulls of Pamplona" last month.

On Wednesday he was speared in the right thigh by a bull. He was seriously injured but currently doing well after surgery, his friend Alexander Fiske-Harrison told the Associated Press.

Hillman was one of several injured in Pamploma. A 35-year-old Spanish man was in serious condition after being gored in the chest, according to a Navarra regional government statement.

The Wednesday run was the third of eight in the festival, which lasts from July 7 to 14.

Fifteen people have died from gorings since 1924, when record-keeping of the event began. The majority of those injured each year fall and trip during the stampede.
