No woman is going to make an honest man out of Charles Manson anytime soon.

The convicted serial killer, 80, was expected to marry his girlfriend, 27-year-old Afton Elaine Burton, known as Star, but reportedly recently discovered she was only using him for his corpse. Burton and her friends were reportedly scheming to take possession of Manson’s corpse after he died so that they could make money from it by putting it on display in Los Angeles, reports The Independent.

Burton and her friend, Craig Hammond, allegedly had everything planned out: they would lay out Manson’s remains in a glass crypt, similar to Lenin’s Tomb, and charge money for visitors to view him, reports the New York Post.

But their plan collapsed after Manson reportedly found out what they were up to and called off the wedding.

“He’s finally realized that he’s been played for a fool,” said journalist Daniel Simone.

He continued, “He feels he will never die. Therefore, he feels it’s a stupid idea to begin with.”

According to the Manson fan website Burton and Hammond moderate, the couple “plan on renewing the license, and things will move forward in the coming months.” The website also explains that their wedding was postponed “due to an unexpected interruption in logistics.”

Manson reportedly came down with an infection two months ago and is in a prison medical facility, where he cannot receive visitors.

Burton and Hammond have reportedly been thinking about Manson’s corpse for two years and originally asked him to sign a document vowing to give them the rights to his body when he dies. Simone says he didn’t reply either way and strung them along so they would continue to bring him toiletries and other items in prison.

When Burton reportedly realized she would have the rights to his corpse by marrying him, she became intent on making him her husband, Simone said – something Manson was never keen on doing.
