Brooklyn Man Nervous About Return to Work After Molotov Cocktail Attack

| by Emily Smith

Brooklyn bodega clerk Asif Butt said he was lucky to be alive but afraid of going back to work after a miffed customer threw a Molotov cocktail into his store.

Butt was manning the counter Wednesday morning when an intoxicated man entered the corner store. The man demanded credit, but Butt denied him.

“I said I can’t give credit because of my boss,” Butt said. “He talk mean, but he left. I thought that was it.”

However, the man returned wearing a hoodie and sunglasses around 2 a.m. In surveillance footage, he can be seen lighting a Molotov cocktail and hurling it into the store.

Butt’s jacket and hair caught on fire, though he suffered only minor injuries.

“I can’t believe that this would happen here,” Butt, an immigrant from Pakistan, said. “I come here to America…I don’t think this would happen same like [in] Pakistan.”

The man has not yet been caught, but Butt hopes he will be arrested and brought to justice.
