British ISIS Convert Reportedly Dies During Siege In Syria

The Islamic State has lost one of its most infamous figures after a fight in the Syrian city of Kobane.

Abu Abdullah al-Habashi, 20, converted from Christianity to Islam during his teenage years. He traveled all the way from London to fight for the Islamic State in Syria in December of 2013. Now, supporters of ISIS have taken to social media to mourn the death of Habashi, who was reportedly killed during combat in Kobane.

Habashi was well known for his media appearances, along with his infamous photo posing next to a decapitated Syrian soldier. He recently appeared in an IS video entitled “Wait. We are also waiting.” In the video, he made some disturbing claims.

“We are waiting for you in Dabiq, we are waiting for you in Iraq, so bring your coalition of unbelievers because unbelievers will not help you,” Habashi said. “We will take their weaponry as booty, and these people will die.”

He went on to insist that the Islamic State fighters were willing to lay down their blood on the soil. "So try. Try to come, and we will kill every single soldier. We will chop off the heads of the Americans. We will chop off the heads of the French, chop the heads of whoever you may bring.”

Habashi also made the bold claim that the black flag of the Islamic State will “eventually be on the White House.”

He appeared on BBC Newsnight in August and spoke about his family. During the interview, he said they tried to get him to come back home but he refused. “They say what all parents would say: ‘Come back, you’re crazy, etc.’ But I’m here for the sake of Allah.”

In a separate IS video, entitled “Eid Greetings from the Land of the Khilafah,” Habashi glorified life under the Islamic State.

“I don’t think there is anything better than living in land of the Khilafah,” Habashi said. “You know the rights and you are not living under oppression. You are not living under rule. You are not living under the kufr (non-believer). You are living by the Koran and by the Su’rah. As Muslims, that’s what we want and that’s what we need. We don’t need any democracy, we don’t need any communism, we don’t need anything like that. All we need is Shara.”
