Bride's Heartbreak After Fiance Left Her Was 'The Best Thing That Ever Happened' To Her

Stacey Becker's fiance dumping her right before their wedding to marry someone else was "the best thing that ever happened" to her.

The 38-year-old, who was 29 at the time, had purchased a $3,500 wedding dress and was ready to marry the man she thought was the love of her life, when he suddenly broke things off, saying that he was not ready to get married, the Daily Mail reports.

"My family was cheering behind closed doors," Becker told the Daily Mail. "They thought Brad was immature, impulsive and that I could do a lot better."

She knows now that they were right, but was devastated at the time.

The estranged couple then dated long distance for three and a half of "the worst months" of Becker's life, she said.

"There is no easy way to date your ex fiancé," she explained. "Especially in a long distance relationship!"

They visited each other every weekend but eventually decided to end things.

"I was just so sick of being sad, with no progress in sight," she said.

Three months after Brad called off the wedding, he delivered what Becker describes as "a punch in the gut."

He had gotten engaged to somebody else, months after telling her that he wasn't ready for marriage.

Six months after the wedding, the couple divorced. Becker had dodged a bullet.

While Brad might not have had a happy ending, Becker could not be more happy. She and her longtime friend, Jonny, whom she always had a crush on, realized their feelings for each other and began dating.

The couple has been married for five years and has a young daughter.

Becker later realized that getting dumped right before her wedding forced her to have confidence and hope for the future, she told the New York Post.

"For anyone who feels despair from heartbreak, know you’re not alone," she said. "Love is out there, but you have to be patient and recognize it. It might not always come in the package you expect it to come in, but you’ll know it when you have it."
