Police in Jacksonville, Florida, are actively searching for a 21-month-old boy who was kidnapped after his mother’s boyfriend left him in the car by himself on July 24 (video below).

According to reports, Lonzie Barton was taken from outside his home after his mother’s boyfriend strapped him into his car seat. The man was going to pick up his girlfriend from work at 2:30 a.m. when he put Lonzie and his 5-year-old sister in the car.

He realized he had to run back inside the home to get something, but he took the 5-year-old with him because she is scared of the dark.

The boyfriend was reportedly back inside for only a moment, and when he walked back outside, he saw someone take off with the car with the toddler still inside.

Only 10 minutes later, authorities found the stolen vehicle, but the boy was not inside. Later that morning, police declared an Amber Alert and launched a massive search for the child.

Authorities initially suspected Lonzie’s biological father may have been involved, but they’ve since ruled that theory out. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone with more information to come forward.
