A San Bernardino, California, man was arrested after allegedly attempting to kidnap a baby from the child’s babysitter.
Police were called to the scene on May 17 at around 9:37 a.m., KTLA reported. There, they found 35-year-old Edgar Valdez being held down by a security guard.
According to San Bernardino Police Department Lt. Rich Lawhead, Valdez had attempted to kidnap a baby. He reportedly charged at Carmen Perez, the child’s babysitter, as she was putting the baby in a stroller.
Perez then tried to take the child into a nearby business, but Valdez caught up to her. He started wrestling the stroller away from Perez and pushed the babysitter onto the ground.

But Perez would not let go of the stroller.
"I was scared that something happen to her, so I do the best thing I can,” Perez told KTLA. “So I tried to push her with me. He pushed me away."
The stroller tipped over and the child fell out. Valdez then attempted to flee.

Witnesses followed Valdez and saw him changing clothes behind a business. That’s when security guard Martin Aguilar took action and pinned Valdez down.
Aguilar said he held Valdez under "citizen’s arrest" after hearing Perez cry for help. He and three other people stayed with Valdez until police arrived.
Perez and the baby, 4-month-old Chloe, were taken to a nearby hospital. Perez had some abrasions on her arm, but the baby was unharmed, Lawhead said.
"I'd do everything I could to hire that babysitter," Lawhead said. "Obviously, she takes her job pretty seriously, and she did everything she could to make sure the baby was protected."
Valdez is now facing charges of attempted kidnapping and child endangerment, ABC News reported.
