Babysitter Sells Woman's Possessions While She Is At Work

Joanie Knight of Bogalusa, Louisiana, returned home from work on Tuesday night to find that everything of value in her home had gone missing.

According to police, the babysitter Knight hired, Estelle Ard, 64, and her daughter Cathy Knight (no relation to the victim), 27, are accused of selling her possessions while she was away.

"They cleaned out my house," Joanie said. "Everything that we worked so hard for. They just sold it out."

Police said that Ard took Joanie's children to the park while Cathy called a radio station and sold her possessions.

Bogalusa Police Chief Joe Culpepper said that the items were sold right out of Joanie's own house.

Items such as the refrigerator, freezer, washer, dryer, and television were all sold.

"They sold brand new appliances for like $40 and $50 and people didn't think this was odd," Joanie said. "I'm angry. I'm upset. I'm scared. I don't know if she has friends that are going to try and come after me, because I went to the police."

Cathy has been arrested and a warrant is out for the arrest of Ard.

Authorities have been trying to recover items sold from the home. Anybody with information about the crime is being asked to contact Bogalusa police.
