Authorities in St. Clair Shores, Michigan plan to conduct an autopsy on an elderly man who was found dead inside a portable toilet directly outside the Detroit city limits.
After initially observing the man’s decomposed body, police suggested that he could have been inside the portable toilet for around five months. According to CBS Local, police also suggested that the man may have been using the toilet as a shelter during the cold winter, although his identity is still unknown.
The portable toilet was located on a boat launch in St. Clair Shores, and the area had been closed since October. A security guard on patrol discovered that the portable toilet was locked from the inside and ultimately knocked down the door to discover the man’s remains.
“I don’t believe there was any foul play but we won’t know for sure until the autopsy is completed. I believe the man had been living there since November or December because of food receipts we found in the porta-potty,’ said St. Clair Shores Detective Margaret Eidt to the Macomb Daily.
The autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, and police plan to continue the investigation.
