Woman Arrested After Allegedly Drowning Puppy In Airport Bathroom

| by Emily Smith

Florida woman Cynthia Anderson was arrested last week in Nebraska for allegedly drowning her 3-week-old puppy in an airport bathroom after attempting to bring it on a flight.

Police said that Anderson attempted to board a flight out of Central Nebraska Regional Airport on Thursday with two small dogs and three puppies in crates. In accordance with U.S. flight regulations, flight attendants prohibited the 56-year-old from bringing the animals aboard, since puppies less than eight weeks old aren’t allowed to fly.

“Their eyes weren’t even open,” Grand Island Police Captain Dean Elliot said.

Anderson reportedly handed off two of the puppies to her parents and attempted to board the flight with the third hidden in her carry-on bag. When airport security caught her trying to smuggle the puppy onboard, Anderson allegedly drowned it in a bathroom.

Anderson was arrested after several witnesses, including one woman who found the dead puppy in a bathroom, reported the incident. She was charged with a felony count of animal cruelty.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Anderson has a criminal record dating back to 2010. She was arrested and fined for stealing from a store, sentenced to six months of probation for grand theft, arrested for writing a bad check and sentenced to probation for a number of other charges.

An autopsy of the puppy confirmed that water was found in one of the its lungs. Anderson’s two older dogs are now in the care of her parents. The two other puppies are at the Humane Society.
