Anthony Hensley, whose job was to maintain and care for the swans at the Bay Colony Drive condominium complex in Des Plaines, Illinois was killed on Tuesday in a freak attack by one or more of the birds, according to KSDK.com.
Hensley apparently paddled his kayak too close to the nest of a mother swan, who knocked him from the boat and pursued as he tried to swim for shore. Witnesses said two of the birds circled where Hensley went underwater for the last time (video below).

About 30 minutes after the attack, Hensley’s body was pulled from the water by police. The father of two was described by family members as healthy and athletic, but fell into the water clothed and wearing boots.
