A registered sex offender allegedly threw his miniature Dachshund and cat down a trash chute at his apartment in Queens, New York, police said Friday.

Michael Hutchinson was identified as the owner of the dog, formerly named Lola, and was charged with animal cruelty. The 29-year-old is accused of throwing his neglected dog into the chute of his Bayside apartment on May 14, leaving the animal severely injured, according to the New York Daily News.

The cat, which police say was also allegedly chucked down the chute by Hutchinson, was found dead in the basement about a week later.

According to a spokeswoman from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), the Dachshund has been renamed Belle and was treated for her injuries. She is expected to be up for adoption soon.

Hutchinson denied throwing the feline down the trash chute, but his girlfriend ratted him out, the New York Post reported.

Hutchinson was found guilty of drugging and raping a 15-year-old girl in 2006, according to court records.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will be tracking animal cruelty crimes in their national incident data reporting system beginning in 2016, Examiner.com reports.
