Raymond S. Williamson, 20, of Kingston, NY, had a heated argument with his girlfriend on Saturday, May 5. It ended in him pushing the 19-year-old girl to the floor and scratching her as he struggled  to get her phone out of her hand.

The young woman reported he then stole $260 from her. (Kingston is located 91 miles north of New York City.)

The next day Williamson dug up the body of the woman's pet Chinchilla that had died three weeks before.  He photographed the animal’s corpse and sent the photo to the girl’s cell phone, police told the Daily Freeman.

Police did not disclose where the animal was buried nor the cause of its death. Kingston Police arrested Williamson at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and St. James Street around 8.30 p.m. on Sunday night. He was charged with grand larceny, aggravated harassment and a violation of harassment. He is being held at the Benedictine Hospital psychiatric ward, where he was taken for evaluation.

Arraignment was set for Monday, May 7, 2012, but the court proceedings have been delayed pending the outcome of the psychiatric determination, a police spokesperson said.
