| by Sarah Fruchtnicht

A California man caught on camera abusing a six-month-old pit bull puppy named Daisy was given five years probation on Wednesday.

When the charges were announced on Aug. 12, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said the Lancaster man could face up to three years in jail.

The cellphone video was taken on Aug. 8 by a concerned bystander. The footage shows Robert Emmett Martin, 54, body-slam, punch and throw Daisy into the street.

He pleaded no contest to one felony count of animal cruelty and is prohibited from possessing an animal for 10 years. He was ordered to perform 90 days of community service and attend 24 animal cruelty prevention classes, the Daily Mail reported.

Daisy survived the attack with no injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control. She is now in foster care.
