A New Jersey hunter died after he reportedly shot himself in the head and neck by accident while hunting geese on Saturday.
The unidentified 45-year-old man, who was from Chesterfield, was reportedly hunting at around 4:15 p.m. in the woods in West Windsor with his father when the incident took place, reports Fox News.
Both men had licenses to hunt the Canada geese, according to authorities. They were reportedly using decoys that were spread out in front of their blind. There were no other hunters present at the time, police say, and the man’s father was not injured.
“Although incredibly tragic, it is believed that the incident was solely an accident,” police said in a statement, as reported by Yahoo News.
The man reportedly died from a single shot to the head and neck and was declared dead at the scene.
