James Irvine of Palm Coast, Florida, has been charged with child neglect after leaving his Pit Bull to care for his 10-month-old baby son while he went out to a bar to have a drink and watch a football game on Friday night.
The baby’s mother told Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies that she called Irvine by phone many times prior to 11:00 p.m. but he would not answer. When he finally did, he told her he was “watching the game” and hung up on her, according toJD Journal.
The baby’s mother said she returned home to find Irvine urinating on himself as he attempted to enter the home through the garage door. He admitted to her that he had been at a bar drinking, but said he had not really left their young son alone because the “Pit Bull was watching the baby.”
The police report states that the child was crying and alone in his bedroom with the door shut when the mother arrived home. The dog was in the next room. A Sheriff’s deputy confirmed the Pit Bull was sitting outside the door.
Irvine reportedly told Sheriff’s deputies that he never went to a bar on Friday and that he was at home all night. However, the JD Journal states that, according to the police report, a bartender at a local bar told police that Irvine was there at about 9:30 p.m. Friday and that he drank six Coronas and a Bud Lite, according to rawstory. com. The bartender said he left without paying his tab.
Irvine was taken into custody and charged with child neglect but later released on $1,500 bail.
