An unidentified man was recently arrested for selling 14 catfish to undercover wildlife officers on the website Craigslist.

The man allegedly caught the catfish from the Kalamazoo River in Allegan County, Michigan.

Apparently, Michigan's Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was tipped off to the ad by an unnamed source.

Undercover officers from the Wildlife Resources Protection Unit bought the catfish from the man last Tuesday and he was arrested.

The suspect now faces a misdemeanor charge, which could mean 90 days behind bars and a fine between $250 and $1,000, if convicted.

“It takes away from true and honest sportsman,” said Lt. Timothy Robson of the DNR told ”Greed takes over if people are making a profit on it.”

“Due to the contaminants in that river, it’s highly recommended that people don’t eat those fish. If you buy fish under the table, there’s no recourse if something happens. You have no idea how it’s taken care of or where it came from," added Robson.
