Nassau County Police on Long Island report they arrested 38-year-old Monica Christopher of New Cassel on dog fighting charges on Friday night, January 25, after responding to a complaint about noise at the woman’s house, according to ABC.

Police say officers arrived at the home at 721 Broadway about 11:00 p.m. and saw 15 to 20 people running from the garage. Inside they found a makeshift dog-fighting ring in which two badly injured Pit Bulls were fighting. Animal Control officials say that five dogs were being actively fought that night and three were so badly injured that they had to be euthanized.

The  Associated Press reported that the officers who responded to the scene found Monica Christopher, the homeowner, inside the house, along with numerous crates containing malnourished Pit Bulls. Many of the dogs were severely injured. They also discovered two treadmills, penicillin, steroids and syringes, which are commonly used in dog fighting.

Police reported that a total of 18 pit bulls, many of them puppies, were removed from the home and taken to the North Hempstead Shelter for evaluation.
