Going to the zoo is a national pastime for many children. Although the animals are typically calm when around humans, from time to time they may act in an unexpected way (video below).

In a 2012 viral video that is making its way around the internet once again, a little girl is looking at a lion through plated glass at the zoo. She appears to blow the lion a kiss;  the majestic creature was not a fan.

Immediately after the gesture, the lion starts roaring and scratching the glass. The little girl continues to look on, both hands touching the glass despite appearing a little shocked at the animal's behavior.

“That little girl is braver than I am,” said Redditor returningtheday. “I would have jumped back so far.”

Although many agree that viewing such a reaction would provoke at least some fear, the glass constructed for zoo exhibits undergoes rigorous testing to ensure the safety of the animals and the visitors.

However, other mishaps at the zoo have resulted in severe outcomes.

In 2015, a two-year-old boy fell into the cheetah exhibit at the Cleveland Metropark Zoo, as reported by CNN. Although the cheetahs made no attempt to approach the child, he suffered leg injuries due to the 10 to 12-foot fall.

Zoo officials considered charging the parents with child endangerment.

"Unfortunately, we have a number of eyewitness accounts that point to the strong likelihood that the child was dangled over the rail," said Dr. Christopher Kuhar, executive director of the Cleveland Metropark Zoo.

In 2012, a two-year-old was mauled to death after falling into an African Painted Dog exhibit at the Pittsburgh Zoo. The child slipped over the railing, bounced into the safety net, then tumbled into the exhibit.

According to Pittsburgh police, the child was “immediately attacked by 11 dogs inside the pen,” as reported by CNN.
