Katherine Heigl Launches 'I Hate Balls' Campaign for Pets
Move over naked PETA ladies! Males--or at least a certain part of their anatomy—have become the shock factor in an irreverent new humane effort. Katherine Heigl has just launched her “I Hate Balls!” campaign to save the world by eliminating testicles!
"I can't cut the nuts off human men — yet. So I've dedicated my time to the neutering of dogs. Because that's legal!" says Heigl in a satirical PSA intended to bring attention to the need to neuter dogs and cats.
Katherine Heigl, through the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, has sponsored many spay-and-neuter programs to decrease pet overpopulation. It appears she has lost patience with conventional messages.
She describes testicles as jiggly, crinkly, muppet-like, and disgusting and basically without positive merit but assures us she doesn’t hate men. When Katherine’s husband begs her to give his balls back so he can have a night out with the boys, she hands him a jar definitely appearing to contain what is extracted during a castration.
Katherine Heigl has taken a daring plunge to start an unusual conversation about neutering via a graphic derision of “balls.” And there’s no question, if anyone has a pair, it is Katherine Heigl!
This PSA is enough to make even the most macho, self-assured males cringe, but does it accomplish the goal of making you want to cut the balls off your dog (or cat)?
Watch Katherine Heigl’s “I Hate Balls” PSA and tell us what you think.

I find this clip really offensive...in large part because it points to a double standard. Imagine if a male actor were to call for the removal of female genitalia. There would be hell to pay. Just the other week we had a woman castrate her husband and throw his "balls" into a garbage disposal...and days later we have Sharon Osborne on The Talk joking about it. His "crime"? He wanted a divorce. Imagine if the genders were reversed.
There is nothing funny about this at all, and for her to make jokes about it demonstrates here deepseated misandry. Needless to say I won't be donating to her charity and I won't be watching any more of her movies. Further, I find it a bit hypocritcal that she demonstrates sexism by joking about castrating men in this ad while complaining about the sexism in her "Knocked Up" movie.
This is obviously for a great cause, but this video and merchandise is repulsive and offensive. Even joking about sexually mutilating "human men" is unacceptable. Attaching this disgusting ad to a charity is just plain wrong. Would women be laughing if this was glorifying rape or sexually mutilating women? I think not... Very interesting comments. Thanks for sharing! I always find them useful.

Silva, Katherine Heigl is not only up against the huge breeding industry. Heigl is in L.A., where there is another problem too. The General Manager of L.A. city shelters is supposed to inrease spay-neuter and reduce killing. But in L.A., that person is Brenda Barnette, a loyal friend of the breeders.
Listen to Brenda Barnette, in her own voice, about one minute into this two minute video. You will hear that Barnette protects breeders, as she dismisses spay-neuter.

No wonder the killing at L.A. city shelters since Barnette took over has increased so dramatically (L.A. city shelter killing increased by over 11% in one year under Barnette). That terrible backward movement happened in L.A. city animal shelters which are led by Barnette. It did not happen in L.A. county or in Ventura county animal shelters.
Good point. If this were in the reverse, with even a hint of female mutilation, the cops would be out knocking on the door of the psycho that made the film. However, remember that the supreme court ruled depictions of cruelty to animals is OK. Does that include men?
Sickening and disturbing. Just unacceptable and I can't imagine this focused on a woman's body parts. Turns me completly away from the spokesperson and the message.
Sexual mutilation jokes about people isn't the way to get this message across.
Jay Leno letting this garbage on TV disappoints me even further.
Did Jay Leno have Katherine Heigl on his show regarding this campaign? I would like to hear that discussion! The saddest part of this is that she really has contributed greatly to spay/neuter programs and undoubtedly she meant for this to encourage sterilizing pets to reduce shelter overcrowding. But, I agree, this is very disturbing. I wouldn't want my son to see it.
What??? This reminds me of the Boks' fiasco of Hooters for Neuters, kinda in the same vein. In fact, I could see this turning off people actually. Just not well thought out for sure, someone acted on bad advice.
The Found Animals calendar 6 paks 9 lives calendar is supposed to promote cat adoptions by showing nude men with kittens covering their....well, you know. That is more like the Hooters poster that got Boks booted. The girls had on short shorts, petting kitties in their laps. I know sex sells but why are the animal people so desperate? It seems especially offensive when it is endorsed by shelter managers and Barnette is in heavy with Found Animals.
Ouch, Kathy, baby. What would you do if you did hate men?
Trashy, but it does make the point very well: Spaying and neutering is the best thing we can do for dogs and cats for the foreseeable future, until we stop killing millions a year who are unwanted. If the video has to be trashy, then it is a lot better than the Found Animal's gay men's calendar. I do wish the video had a better ending, or just left the ending off. It heads in exactly the right direction until derailing at the end. Still, great job Heigl in raising awareness.
Katherine Heigl is a lot of guy's dream but this is not quite the fantasy. Not sure if she really made her point in this and I hope it doesn't hurt her efforts for animals. I guess after you've poured thousands of dollars into a bottomless pit, you get desperate for some real progress. She's up against a multi-billion $ breeding industry and is learning that money speaks louder than kindness. She gets kudos for having "balls" of her own but I think this might have the reverse effect of what she planned. Want to see what others think.
