A pair of U.K. brothers were spared jail time after filming themselves hurling a bulldog down a set of stairs (video below).

Andrew Frankish, 22, and Daniel, 19, had their 21-week prison sentence suspended when they appeared in Hartlepool Magistrates’ court in March, Metro UK reported. They were also given six months of curfew.

But after watching the footage of the Frankish brothers torturing a bulldog named Baby, many social media users feel the punishment is inadequate.

“The poor animal was repeatedly thrown down flights of stairs, ‘pile driven’ into the ground from head height, swung around, and stamped all over," wrote 24-year-old Alex Richardson-Lee, who started a petition on in hopes to bring the Frankish brothers to justice.

The footage was described as “one of the most distressing” videos RSPCA officers have ever seen. One of the brothers is heard saying, “See if we can make it scream any more,” during the abuse.

WARNING: This video is very disturbing.

“This was all captured on camera, and it is clear it was for their sick enjoyment,” Richardson-Lee continued. “We believe this sentence should be reconsidered and the punishment should be greater for such horrendous treatment of a defenseless animal.”

Baby was put to sleep three months after the incident. She had lost the use of her hind legs.

The petition has already received more than 170,000 signatures. Richardson-Lee included a link to a GoFundMe page. If the petition doesn’t work, Richardson-Lee hopes the donations can help make a difference.

“The reason for this fundraiser is to give a little back to the organization involved daily with cases such as Baby the bulldog,” Richardson-Lee added. “Hopefully the petition will have an effect on the two offenders' sentencing, but should it fail, at least something can be then donated to try and help prevent these things from happening, and supporting the animals rescued from people like this.”
