Infographic: How Much Does a Pet Really Cost?

if you're considering buying, or adopting, that adorable dog or cute cat, you may want to consider the cost.

According to Totalbankruptcy.com and their infographic (published by Mother Nature Network), many pets cost more than $1,000 per year. In fact, Americans spent more $50 billion on pets last year.

For the most popular pets, dogs averaged $1,580 per year, rabbits cost $1,055, while cats are in third place at $1,035.

One of the more inexpensive pets is a fish at about $200 a year. Of course, a fish cannot play catch.
