A man who goes by the name of "Mario" has volunteered at the Rotterdam Zoo in the Netherlands for most of his adult life.

Sadly, the 54-year-old zookeeper was diagnosed with a brain tumor. His last wish was to say goodbye to the zoo's animals.

According to HLNTV.com, the Ambulance Wish Foundation (AWF), founded by Kees Veldboer, made Mario's dream come true and posted this picture (above) of the man with a giraffe at the zoo on the AWF Facebook page on Thursday.

“You could see him totally light up,” Veldboer told the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, noted the New York Daily News.

“It's very special to see that those animals recognize him, and sense that he isn't doing well,” added Veldboer.
