Eddie the Sea Otter Plays Basketball to Combat Arthritis (Video)

Eddie, a 15-year-old sea otter isn't letting age interfere with major hoop dreams as he happily shows off his moves in his watery court at the Oregon Zoo.
Eddie's signature move? "The slam dunk," Jenny DeGroot, the zoo's lead sea otter keeper, told the Today show,.
DeGroot says Eddie mastered the sport last year to combat the development of arthritis in his elbows, and within the first week of training, he started making baskets.
At 15, Eddie is considered "geriatric." When zoo veterinarians discovered Eddie's condition during an X-ray scan, they knew they "had to get creative," DeGroot explained. "There aren't many natural opportunities for Eddie to work those arthritic elbow joints because sea otters don't use their front limbs to swim – they swim by moving their back legs and flippers."
"He's definitely got game," DeGroot says in a YouTube video, "Sea otters have incredible dexterity, so it makes sense Eddie would have this hidden talent."
"Eddie almost never misses," she added, "and, if he does miss he keeps going until he makes it."
