Richard Fipps was shot by his own rifle after his dog stepped on the weapon.

The bizarre incident happened on Dec 15 in Sheridan, Wyoming.

Fipps was struck in the arm by the bullet, noted Associated Press.

Johnson County Sheriff Steve Kozisek told The Sheridan Press that Fipps and two employees were trying to move his truck, which was stuck.

Fipps was standing outside his truck when he told his dog inside the vehicle to get into the back seat. However, when the dog jumped in the back, the pooch accidentally stepped on a .300 Winchester Magnum rifle.

The gun fired and the bullet hit Fipps in his left arm.

Fipps was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. However, the gunshot injury was so serious that Fipps could lose his arm. For that reason, he was moved to a hospital in Billings, Montana.
