Minnie, a miniature pinscher, was sitting inside her owner's Cadillac on Wednesday when an unidentified person jumped into the car and drove away at about 6:45 a.m.
Minnie's 71-year-old owner was letting the car warm up for a couple of minutes when the theft occurred in Boise, Idaho,
According to the Idaho Statesman, the car was found at 3 p.m. the same day about 5 miles away, but Minnie was not inside the vehicle.
The Boise Police Department put out the word (and a picture) for residents to be on the lookout for Minnie.
“I would rather have her than the car, I’ll tell you that,” said Minnie's owner, noted the New York Daily News. “It would mean everything to me to get her back.”
Fortunately, the owner's former neighbor found Minnie outside the South Boise home where the dog's owner used to live on Thursday.
"I want to give my personal thank you to the community for their support helping me get my dog back. Minnie was excited, I was excited, I almost cried. It was an emotional reunion," said the owner in a Boise Police Department press release.
