Ramel Varrick Johnson, 43, was arrested at his home near Slidell, Louisiana, on 15 counts of dogfighting, training and possession of dogs for fighting on Thursday, January 23.

Johnson reportedly gave sheriff’s deputies a Kileen, Texas, address but they believe he had been living at 37314 Powell Road, which is in St. Tammany Parish, near New Orleans.

St, Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies, responding to an anonymous tip to its animal control unit of possible animal cruelty, arrested Johnson on the dog fighting charges when they found 15 malnourished and injured dogs at his home near Slidell.

There, authorities said, they found 15 Pit Bulls that all appeared to be undernourished and had wounds commonly found on dogs used for fighting. Animal control officers seized the dogs.

Johnson was arrested and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail. Bail has not been set.
