Boy Saves Puppies Abandoned In Trash Bag (Video)

| by Sean Kelly

A boy in New Mexico rescued a litter of puppies he found in a trash bag, abandoned in a field.

As 13-year-old Jonathon Flatt was walking to his bus stop for school one morning, he began to hear rustling nearby. After investigating further, he discovered a trash bag filled with six puppies.

“I realized these puppies are abandoned, they’re weak and stuff so I called my mom right away,” Jonathon said. Though the dogs had chewed through the bag, they were still in bad shape when Jonathon and his mother, Jamie Flatt, got to them.

“They were covered in ticks, you couldn’t even see the inside of their ears,” Jamie said.

The puppies, according to Jamie, were also starving.

“They were not old enough to leave their mom, they did not know how to drink water on their own,” she said. Jonathon and his mother took care of the animals for a week before they healed and adjusted to their surroundings.

“It took a couple days for them to start to trust us, but then they realized they’re not going to hurt me, this is who is going to feed me, this is who is going to take care of me,” Jamie told reporters.

The teen said he simply can’t understand why the puppies were so cruelly abandoned with no concern for their well-being.

“There’s a pound right over there,” he said. “They shouldn’t have just abandoned them and left them to die.”

Jonathon, who said the experience has made him want to be a vet when he grows up, is pleased that the puppies now have a second chance at life. Three of them have been adopted, while the other three have yet to find homes.

“They’re happy, they’re alive, they’re going to have good lives, good homes, and it’s just amazing,” Jamie said.
