Caitlyn Jenner Scolds Trump Over Transgender Policy

| by David Bonner

Caitlyn Jenner has lashed out at President Donald Trump's decision to reverse former President Barack Obama's transgender bathroom directive.

In May 2016, Obama instructed public schools to let transgender students use the bathrooms matching their chosen gender identity, threatening to withhold funding for schools that did not comply, notes Reuters. On Feb. 22, the Trump administration rescinded those guidelines.

Jenner quickly voiced her opposition to Trump's decision: "Well, [Trump], from one Republican to another, this is a disaster," she tweeted. "You made a promise to protect the LGBTQ community. Call me."

Jenner initially favored Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas for president, but supported Trump after he won the Republican nomination, and attended his inauguration.

She also posted an online video, in which she turned her ire toward Attorney General Jeff Sessions. "Apparently even becoming the Attorney General isn't enough to cure some people of their insecurities," she said.

In the video, Jenner addressed transgender children with a message of hope. "You're winning. I know it doesn't feel it today or every day, but you're winning," she said. "Very soon we will win full freedom nation-wide and it is going to be with bipartisan support."

As evidence, she cited the Supreme Court case of Gavin Grimm, a female-born transgender high school student from Virginia. The Court is scheduled to hear Grimm's case on March 28 to determine whether or not he will be allowed to use the boys' bathroom at his school under Title IX, a federal law which prohibits gender-based discrimination.

If Grimm wins the case, the decision will become law of the land, effectively reinstating Obama's directive that Trump reversed. Laying down a challenge to Trump, Jenner said: "Mr. President, we'll see you in court."
