The owner of the Venice Beach Freakshow in California said he received something in the mail so bizarre that he doesn’t even know what to call it (video below).

Todd Ray is no stranger to bizarre or unusual discoveries. In fact, he holds the Guinness World Record for amassing the biggest collection of two-headed animals in the world, according to the Huffington Post.

But in January, Ray came into contact with something that would prove to be his most bizarre discovery yet.

"I got a call from a guy in Arizona who said he found the dead creature in his yard," Ray told the Huffington Post.

"He was spooked by it and said it belonged in my freak show," he added, according to the Express.

Ray was expecting photographs. Instead, the mystery man sent the specimen directly to him in a jar soaking in alcohol.

“I don’t want to call it an alien, but it’s definitely alien in form,” Ray explained to the Post. “It’s about a foot long and has gill-like ear things below the head. It’s got weird eyes and something out of its mouth that looks like a fleshy fang.”

Ray added that there was no contact details on the package, but he is hoping the sender will get in touch.

A number of zoology experts weighed in on the mystery specimen. Most were unable to arrive at a conclusion, while others suggested it could have been put together from different animals.

"It could certainly be an aborted/malformed fetus of any number of species but it appears to be an amalgam of different tissues,” Cristina Simmons, of the San Diego Zoo, wrote in an email to the Post. “I can’t help but notice that the tissue in the head appears to be embedded in the large 'piece' around it (and does not match in consistency or color), eyes and body do not appear to be from the same source as the facial tissue.”

The Arizona Game and Fish Department said it could possibly be a squirrel, deformed pig fetus or fetal bear still in the amniotic sac. They said DNA tests would be needed to confirm the creature’s identity.

Meanwhile, social media users arrived at their own conclusions. Commenters on YouTube suggested the specimen could be a “baby elephant fetus mutation.” Others suggested it could be a “teletubby” or the “larvae stage of the life form politicians are from.”

"This creature is proof there is always something strange under the sun,” Ray said, according to the Express. He added that he would be willing to run DNA tests on the specimen.
