A 91-year-old man reportedly shot another man who was allegedly attempting to rob him, after repeatedly warning his would-be attacker that he was carrying a firearm.
The shooting, which is being investigated as self-defense during an attempted armed robbery, occurred when the elderly man was walking outside of a store in the Detroit area. The would-be robber approached him on the morning of Aug. 22, while behaving in a manner that Eastpointe Police described as "erratic," according to Daily Mail.
The suspect, who is in his late 20s, tried to rob the elderly man, who told him several times that he was carrying a gun. Sgt. Martin Campbell said that the suspect pointed an unknown object at the man, at which point the senior shot his would-be mugger in the neck.
"He attempted to rob [the victim] and [the victim] had a CPL and ended up shooting the suspect," Campbell told The Detroit News. "It’s as simple as that."

Campbell said that the elderly man had warned the suspect "three or four times" that he was carrying a gun, and also pointed the gun at the suspect.
After the shooting, the suspect attempted to flee. But he was found by authorities, who then arrested him.
"Two detectives found him walking over there," said Campbell. "He had a gunshot wound to the neck but he was talking and acting erratic."
The elderly man, who had a license to carry a concealed weapon, went to the police station after the incident and gave his statement to authorities. He is reported to be cooperating with police.

"Nothing’s ever clear-cut but that’s what we’re calling it right now: an attempted robbery shooting," said Campbell, who added that the suspect continued to approach the 91-year-old man even after multiple warnings about the firearm, and even after the senior pointed the gun at the suspect.
The attempted robber, who remains in police custody, is in the hospital recovering from his gunshot wound.
