87-Year-Old Man Dies After Mobility Scooter Plunges Off Pier

An elderly Scottish man died on Friday after his mobility scooter fell off a pier and into the sea, according to Pennan police.

Stuart Farquhar was believed to have been attempting to turn his scooter around when it fell in the water.

The 87-year-old was pulled from the water around 11 a.m. and helped by members of the public. He was airlifted to a hospital in the area by an RAF helicopter, but later died.

According to the ambulance service, Farquhar suffered a head injury during the fall.

Farquhar was a regular visitor to Pennan, where the locals knew him well.

Pennan is a popular tourist destination because of its location as the film spot of Local Hero, a cult classic.
