An elderly man was discovered hanged from a pull-up bar in a Queens, New York, playground Saturday morning.

The 75-year-old man’s body was found dangling from a noose of green wire hanging from the Flushing Maple Playground’s workout station, the New York Post reports.

Who discovered his body is unclear and the man's identity is being withheld until his family is notified of his death.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“That’s crazy,” one playground visitor told New York Daily News. “Why would someone come to the park to kill themselves?”

Police believe the man took his own life and that he stepped off a trash can he had dragged to the spot. According to witnesses, his legs were touching the ground when he was found.

“I knew him for many years,” said the super of the man’s nearby apartment building. “He was a nice guy, quiet guy. I feel bad for him.”
